GNSS Timing Modules product range : SGTM™

Low Power GPS Disciplined Oscillators (GPSDO)

SLX Timing GNSS Timing Modules are providing an ultra-stable time keeping function when GNSS time is not available. Keeping a precise time for the embedded systems is essential for many applications when GPS satellite time becomes unavailable. SGTM module provides a ready-to-go GNSS synchronization function that permanently steers the on-board OCXO frequency to perfectly match the valid 1PPS signal fed to SGTM module.

Once locked to PSS, PPS_out signal is synchronized within a few nanoseconds to the PPS given by the mainboard GNSS receiver. A tight lock warranties the module is ready and optimized in case of hold-over sequence.

When the GPS time becomes unavailable, the SGTM automatically detects it, and goes into hold-over mode. It maintains a 1PPS signal that is computed from the on-board OCXO frequency. Your embedded system will then continue to benefit from a precise time clock for an hold-over period that varies depending on the OCXO performance and long term stability. SGTM10HP can offer an hold-over performance of a few microseconds (µs) per day (24 hours hold-over time).

Considering the case of battery-powered systems, it can be sometimes impossible to use one of the most common GPSDO on the market due to their high power (5W to 8W). Thanks to its low power OCXO, SLX Timing SGTMs are showing record-low consumption values between 90 mW to 500 mW for the entire module. When higher performances are required, SGTM™ can be ordered with customized thermal calibration done at factory before shipment. This helps to reduce the thermal sensitivity of the timing module by a factor 20 to 50 compared to the OCXO intrinsic performance not digitally assisted. Such low thermal sensitivity is comparable to chip scale atomic clocks (CSAC).

How to choose the right gnss timing module?

SLX Timing offers a range of GNSS TIMING modules with high level of technical characteristics

In more details, AT-cut OCXOs are encapsulated into a DIL14 metallic and hermetic package, with 4 through hole pins. This type of OCXO is the smallest of its category, with a volume of about 2cm3. The resonator inside the OCXO very small size, and its intrinsic thermal stability is lower than ±80ppb across the full operating temperature range. If a better thermal sensitivity is needed while keeping power consumption below 200 mW then SGTM is the right solution and can reach less ±4ppb thermal sensitivity.
